How sweet it is…

To be loved by you, my dear Macarons!

CW – Strawberry, Blueberry, Chocolate & Peppermint I think… I ate these babies during those cold 4.30am World Cup soccer matches… YUM! Going to try La Renaissance’s macarons soon!

“Chewy” Toblerone cookies: first attempt ever at baking… tasted alright! With the honey and bits of toblerone… but slightly too crunchy…

T2′s Passion: to wash it all down, add some spice and tang in your tea.

Next up on my mini baking adventure is Strawberry and white chocolate cupcakes. Cupcakes! :D

Nom Nom Nom

I’ve been meaning to do a layout revamp for yonks, but never really set time aside to learn more about wordpress themes… but here it is! I realise there are some kinks left… I’ll get to them sometime… The layout is incredibly simple and bare… I likey! :)

WORLD CUP FINALS TONIGHT, WOOOO! At the goodly hour of 4.30am. Sigh.

Some highlights from my recent trip to the Gold Coast:

Prawns! Grilled Fish! Oysters! So freaking good! They also have shops in Bondi and Manly in Sydney too.

Come on, Aussie come on, come ooooooooon! :)

Ghana vs Australia. SOO Epic.

The Socceroos did us proud by scoring early on… THAT is the Australian Spirit when it comes to competing… The safe hands of Schwarzer… then in the 24th minute things went a bit pear shaped when Kewell got red carded and Ghana a penalty… then it was leveled. BOO!!

We should’ve won, if it weren’t for that dodgy Italian’s refereeing…

Next game against Serbia, must win, to keep our World Cup dreams alive. GO YOU GOOD THINGS!!!!!

‘Cos I’m craaaaaazzaaaay

Haro!

Wow, the blogging action has well and truly carked it and for that I sincerely apologise.

Only 10 more days of being a university bottom forever and I’m (hopefully) out of that institution for life! In the mean time, I’m stuffing my brain with 13 weeks worth of knowledge… then I will have 6 months of complete freedom before I enter the “real world” of “corporate life”.

In the mean time, who has been watching the FIFA World Cup?! Gosh, on behalf of all Australians, I’d like to say that last night’s game against Germany was just plain embarrassing… 4-0?! Seriously? Complete annihilation… BUT we still love the Socceroos and wish them the best of luck with their next game versus Ghana!

After exams, I’m going to try catch some more games… even though they’re on at ridiculous hours like 4.30am. Another item to tick off my “2010, To-do list”. :)

I love my little friends

As you may (or may not) know, my house has been under renovation for the last year and during that time I didn’t actually have my own room and literally lived in the living room.

Over the last 2-3 weeks, I’ve been (FINALLY) moving stuff into my new room and I found my friends again!

Can’t believe I’ve got so many stuffed toys! You know you have too many when they take up 1/2 your bed and some poor darlings don’t even have a name… Not to mention, I was a super creative kid and named the little lamb on the right: “Lambie”. :)~
My little friends
Shh… don’t say anything, my little friends might not be happy, but I really like Michaelangelo… how COOOL were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?! And I really love the dog… and Paddington Bear… OK! You got me, I love them all <3

I’ve been swamped by exams and assignments – I’ve recently completed 2 DIYs but I’ve been lazy about taking pictures… some time later perhaps, after I’ve had my coffee. Hm.

There IS such thing as a free lunch…

… A free $100 lunch and the only catch is to write 250 words about your dining experience. Easy-Shemezy-Hezzy!

This semester I’m doing an accounting subject and we’re writing a case study on the Sydney Cove Oyster Bar situated in Circular Quay. To get a better idea of how the oyster bar operates, the owners generously gave 4 students from each tutorial, the opportunity to go visit the oyster bar for a meal! Luckily, only 4 students (including myself) in my tutorial volunteered (so a ballot wasn’t needed), so I’m a happy, little 23 yr old girl. :)

I am The Seafood Queen. If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, Seafood would be my choice. I realise I’m cheating a bit, because seafood includes so many things… but whatever. It’s a little silly hypothetical to begin with… I know I’ve previously chosen Japanese… but whatever. I’m a girl. I’m allowed to change my mind! Hm.. sashimi… I’m not entirely sure I could eat it “Bear Grylls style” where he literally catches a live fish in a river, slaps it against the ground to kill it, guts it and munches right into it… when the fish is still kind of wriggling… or something… but that’s another story.

Updates are a bit sporadic unfortunately… mainly because uni work is squashing me and writing graduate applications is a nasty time sucking thing. It’s kind of like a catch-22. If I keep up to date with my uni work, I won’t have time to write apps. If I write my apps, I will fall behind for uni and it’s not even guaranteed anything will come out of it. And the thing is, I have a job lined up already! Sigh. I’m hoping something good comes out of this, otherwise, I’ll be an angry Seafood Queen and I’ll eat all your sashimi.

Quay: Restaurant of the year

Quay won SMH’s Good Food Guide “Restaurant of the year” award, with an 18/20 ranking and 3 Chef’s hats! Being the restaurant of the year, you would expect perfect service, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. When we settled into our table (with a frickin’ FANTASTIC view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House!) a family friend accidentally spilt their glass of water onto the table. Not only did it take an AGE for the waitress to notice, but when she did – all she did was this: she went away for a few minutes and came back with 2 pieces of square foil (same size as napkin) and two napkins and placed them over the wet patch on the tablecloth.

Seriously? As a waitress at the “Restaurant of the year” – that’s what you come up with? This is how you treat customers? You can’t even be bothered changing the tablecloth? Not only did her “solution” ruin the aesthetics of the dining area, but when the guest especially requested the waitress change the tablecloth, the waitress said: “I have to ask my manager about it.” Seriously?! You need to ask your manager for permission to change a tablecloth? Do you think the manager will actually say no, especially after the customer requested it? Bleh!!

She certainly did not seem like a n00b waitress and she couldn’t have been busy with other customers at that time, because we were the first to arrive! After that “incident”, funnily enough, she didn’t come near our table anymore, and other wait staff served us and they were really friendly and helpful. It’s not even like we were being unreasonable or rude when we requested the tablecloth change… Apart from that – the rest of the dining experience was quite enjoyable!

We ordered the 7 course degustation (Tasting menu) and it was definitely a treat and a half multiplied by 2!

Quay: Opening entree
This actually wasn’t officially on the menu – but was rather a small, little welcoming dish, courtesy of the kitchen

Quay: Sea Pearls
Sea Pearls: Sashimi tuna, aquaculture caviar, sea scallop, smoked eel, octopus, mud crab, abalone – this is Quay’s signature dish and with good reason! 5 balls of “fishy brilliance!” That shiny silver stuff on top is edible too!

Quay: Mud crab congee
Mud crab congee: Hand shelled mud crab, palm hearts, Chinese inspired split rice porridge

Quay: Crisp confit of pig belly
Crisp confit of pig belly: braise of abalone, silken tofu, Japanese mushrooms, chive flowers

Quay: Gently poached quail breast
Gently poached quail breast: bitter chocolate black pudding and walnut crumbs, truffle custard, fresh palm hearts, white borage buds – the black pudding in this tasted odd. It was salty.

Quay: Slow cooked pure bred Suffolk lamb loin
Slow cooked pure bred Suffolk lamb loin: young vegetables, garlic custard, roasted quinoa, sunflower seeds, pine nuts, hazelnuts

Quay: White peach snow egg

Quay: White peach snow egg
White peach snow egg – I really like this dish too, I think it was guava sorbet, but it also had a hint of strawberry, the hard, top bit from creme bruleé, frothy, wispy stuff from soufflé and custard… Look at that oozy, custardy goodness ooze out… *drools*

Quay: Eight texture chocolate cake
Eight texture chocolate cake featuring Amedei ‘Chuao’ Chocolate – I actually had this last November at the Aids trust of Australia, Food and Wine fair – I think this is called Eight texture chocolate cake, because of the hot chocolate melty goodness drooped on top… hm…
